Events of the the International Go Federation

An overview of the major global events is given in the events section. Tournaments books, brochures and a video reports are often produced reporting the events.

Players of every member country are invited to the IGF World Amateur Go Championship. In 2006 in the 27th World Amateur Go Championship in Sasebo, Japan, a record number of 68 players from 68 countries and territories participated.

The results of the recent championships are available on the results pages.

Every year also the IGF assists in the organisation of the International Amateur Pair Go Championships, and also provides some support for other international events, such as the World Student Oza and the Korea Prime Minister Cup International Amateur Baduk Championships.

Reports, games and results from the WAGC and IAPGC, and more recently the WSO, are published in our yearly magazine "Ranka" which is distributed to all members.

Go lesson
The IGF helps promote Go in countries where it has not been played before, or not been played on an organised level.
Here we see Shigeno Yuki, IGF Secretary General and professional player, surrounded by a crowd of eager participants during a lesson on a teaching tour, a few years ago.
Several countries have had promotional visits but have yet to join the IGF.
