IGF is the main organiser of the World Amateur Go Championship, a tournament which in its 29th edition (2009, Tokyo) gathered 68 players from 68 countries.

Every year the IGF assists in the organisation of the International Amateur Pair Go Championships (IAPGC), and in 2006, 07 and 08 has provided support for the International Amateur Baduk Championships (IABC).

In 2008 the IGF helped in the organisation of the Go section of the 1st World Mind Sports Games (WMSG), which saw the participation of 560 players from 61 countries.
