Cancellation of the 2020 World Women’s Go Championship (WAWGC) was determined on 18 February due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The WAWGC was planned to be held from 1 till 8 May 2020, before the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo.

However, because of the current status of the Coronavirus, the Nihon Ki-in board discussed about whether to cancel the WAWGC in Japan at the board meeting of 18 February.

A director of Nihon Ki-in said: ‘we are obliged to cancel the tournament due to the threat and the uncertainty of the Coronavirus’.

The Nihon Ki-in also decided to postpone the World Go Championship 2020 which was planned to take place in Tokyo from 17 March.
